Rodong Sinmun Marks World Day of Biological Diversity
Pyongyang, May 22 (KCNA) -- The United Nations commemorates May 22 every year as World Day of Biological Diversity to raise the public concern and awareness of the protection of biological diversity, says an article of Rodong Sinmun Friday.
The world sets it as one of the important tasks to be settled by humankind in the 21st century to protect the biological diversity and use it in a sustainable way, the article says, and goes on:
The purpose of World Day of Biological Diversity for this year is to bring the public to the knowledge that the way for settling lots of challenges arising in achieving sustained development is in protecting bio-diversity.
The reforestation is now actively under way in our country to turn the whole country into thick woodland and greenery.
Efforts have also been intensified to enrich bio-diversity by releasing lots of useful animals to the mountains and the seas.
Mt Paektu, Mt Kuwol, Mt Myohyang, Mt Chilbo and Mt Kumgang which play important roles in the protection of bio-diversity have been registered as world biosphere sanctuaries, and Mundok and Rason migrants sanctuaries have been registered as important swampy land in the world, and regular investigation and study of the key areas related to the bio-diversity have been carried out as part of the national drive for protecting bio-diversity.
As a signatory to the Convention on Biological Diversity, we will in the future, too, sincerely fulfill our duty.
