Pyongyang Speed Shining in History of Capital City Construction

Pyongyang, April 1 (KCNA) -- The construction of 10 000 flats was launched in Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK, under the lofty intention of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) to solve the housing problem for the citizens.

In a short time after its start, builders concluded the ground excavation project in the main by removing hundreds of thousands of cubic meters of earth, with a towering determination to create a new Pyongyang speed in construction, and advanced into the ground concrete tamping.

Pyongyang Speed has been steadily carried forward in the annals of socialist construction, and it is shining as the heroic fighting spirit of the DPRK people who have brought about brilliant successes and epoch-making changes in the construction of the capital city.

In the era of great Chollima upswing after the 1950-1953 war, President Kim Il Sung became the chairman of the Pyongyang City Reconstruction Committee to guide the postwar reconstruction in the van. Under his leadership, builders in charge of the capital city construction built more than 20 000 flats with materials and funds for 7 000 flats and created the Pyongyang Speed by raising the building speed 7.3 times as against that before to fabricate each flat in 14 minutes.

Thanks to the energetic guidance of Chairman Kim Jong Il who worked heart and soul to make Pyongyang City more magnificent, a period of prosperity of Pyongyang was opened up with the construction of many streets and edifices. Such streets and monumental buildings appeared in the city in the period from the mid-1970s to the early 1990s as Rakwon, Changgwang, Munsu, Kwangbok and Thongil streets and the Changgwang Health Complex, the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital and the Grand People's Study House.

In the 2010s, too, a new Pyongyang speed, myth of construction, was created in the course of carrying into practice the WPK's plan for turning Pyongyang City into a more wonderful and world-level city, an ideal city for the people.

Magnificent streets were built every year, and world-startling miracles had been made in the capital city construction. At that time, builders finished the framework project of 53-storied apartment house in Mirae Scientists Street in 60-odd days and the framework project of 70-storied apartment house in Ryomyong Street in 74 days and the tile-setting of its outer walls in 13 days.
