Forest of Pine-Kwangmyong

Pyongyang, October 16 (KCNA) -- The forest of pine-Kwangmyong is around Sokwang Temple in Solbong-ri, Kosan County of Kangwon Province, the DPRK.

This pine forest, formed when the temple was built in the middle ages, is rare to be seen in the country. Young pine trees are now growing in lower layers of the forest filled with over 200-years-old pine trees.

The scenery of the forest presents a grand sight in spring and autumn. Azalea blossoms are in full bloom in spring and Tricholoma matsutakes are coming up en masse in autumn.

Touring the forest in September Juche 36 (1947), President Kim Il Sung gave a precious instruction for protecting it, saying that forests are a great asset of the country.

The forest of pine-Kwangmyong was registered as a natural monument in 1980.
